Thank you so much for your prayer and support for Japan in this time of crisis. I would like to give you some advice how to pray and support for God’s work in this nation.
First of all, we must face spiritual reality of Japanese people. Many of you may know there are only less than 1 % of Christians. You may think the people’s hearts are more open to the gospel. But in reality, they still seem resistant to the merciful warning of God.
A few of our church members shared the gospel with family members, but they didn’t open their hearts at all. One friend of ours shared the gospel but the family members got angry and went back home.
Think of the Kobe earthquake that struck West Japan in 1995, did we see the revival take place? If you think of 911 in the States as well, many people came to church at that time, but once their lives get back to normal, their hearts became hardened against God. Japan is no exception.
I feel they need more of God’s mercies till their pride gets crushed and they turn back to Him. I’m afraid if many of them would have to go through the Tribulation, they will receive full impact of God’s wrath!
So, the method and strategy of preaching the gospel is still the same as before. In seasons and out of seasons, preach the Word. Only by God’s grace and mercy, their hearts can be changed. Every one of us witnesses the saving work of the Holy Spirit in our lives!
Second, we need long-term help and support. Right after a tragedy, people pay a lot of attention, but the danger past and God forgotten. The victims, however still suffer, feeling loneliness. You don’t necessarily have to mobilize a gigantic team, but small size helps are sufficient for most of their needs otherwise we become burden to the local people. Rather, if you offer them small yet continual and regular supports, they can be used more effectively . We can share the gospel with them accordingly on long term basis so that they may receive the love of Christ through us Christians.
We are now praying if we can go on short-term mission trips to Sendai in the future. It’s not so far from Tokyo, and it is my hometown where my parents and friends live. Please pray the Lord may direct us and give us people of contact so we can reach the needed.
